Why do family-inclusive employers get greater productivity?

In our latest podcast Chris and Emma from LACE talk to Jennifer-Listen Smith from Bright Horizons about the latest results from their Work+Family snapshot. This report, which looks at the impact that being family inclusive can have in benefitting both employers, as well as employees (through greater productivity) covers advice and guidance on how to improve the employer brand and perception of an organisation through wellbeing and inclusive strategies. For example, what impact does providing contingency care provision for employees when they have a disruption that causes them to potentially miss work (whether that is through parents, children, or even pets)? How does family support help to level the playing field?

There are four key insights from the report which we explore in this pod, which include:

  1. Family-inclusive employers gain better productivity, performance and wellbeing in their employees as well as a stronger employer brand
  2. Care provision keeps work sustainable during care disruption, return to office and life events
  3. Levelling the playing field to redress gender imbalances
  4. Different generations look for different family benefits

The podcast also looks at the notable impact on the variation in the way different generations need and use family benefits. Whilst the overall report shows a more positive perception of the employer when family support services are in place, there are still some organisations that need to consider their approach. The report also highlights some recommendations and action points for employers reading it.
